The mother of pearl has double meaning for the star.
Ariana Grande stepped onto the Met Gala 2024 red carpet in a show-stopping look by Spanish brand Loewe. The singer, who hasn't attended the event since 2018, has made her grand return, dressed by her long-time stylist, Mimi Cuttrell, and the look couldn't be more appropriate.

“Ariana is attending The Met Gala with Loewe this year and is wearing an incredible look made of mother of pearl,” Cuttrell shared with Teen Vogue. “I immediately drew inspiration from The Birth of Venus and Primavera’s Three Graces by Botticelli. I love the whimsical beauty and ethereal femininity of both paintings. The idea that a pearl has evolved over time and is, at its essence, a ‘Sleeping Beauty’ really resonated with the theme of this year's Met Gala.”
“A pearl is also Ariana’s birthstone, which makes the look extra special,” the stylist continued. "I used Pinterest to source most reference images and develop my thoughts from there. We worked closely with Lorraine Schwartz to create custom earrings that complement her look, with 14k pear-shaped diamonds and 8k white opals."
Cuttrell also dressed Madelyn Cline and Gigi Hadid for the event, and she's made her full inspo Pinterest board public for everyone to see here.

While Grande has kept things relatively low-key for the last few years, she has been in promo mode for the past couple of months, so her Met Gala return makes all the sense. Recently, the star launched her seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine, and now she's promoting part one of Wicked. It makes sense as most of her red carpet appearances have been channelling her character Glinda Upland, but she played things a bit differently to honour the Met's theme.
The last (and first) time Ariana Grande attended the Met Gala, she wore a gown by Vera Wang that featured imagery from the Sistine Chapel, fitting perfectly into the theme of that year. Her second Met Gala look fits right at home with the first one and proves that Grande definitely knows how to steal the show.
