Eva Longoria found a way to wear a hair bow that doesn't feel coquettish

Ready for a new way to ribbon?

I know, I know — the coquette aesthetic is everywhere right now. And I'm not even mad about it. I personally love the look of a bow or a ribbon — the cornerstone of any coquette hairstyle — topping off a ponytail or a half-up look, especially if that style has lots of ‘90s supermodel volume. But if you're a little tired of coquette life, there is a way to wear a ribbon without giving off those vibes, and the key seems to be avoiding said volume and not literally topping off your ponytail with a bow. Need a little more of an explanation? Just take a look at Eva Longoria.

Eva attended an Haute Living event in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, 30 April, wearing a show-stopping red, form-fitting, ankle-length dress. Her skin positively glowed, and nothing touched her shoulders but a diamond necklace that paired perfectly with her strapless neckline and an adorable — but not overly cutesy — ribbon-adorned ponytail.

Stylist Irinel de León crafted the look, which starts with a sleekly middle-parted base. The ponytail itself is gathered at the middle of the back of her head, but unlike so many of today's bow-embellished ponytails, the ribbon isn't situated around the hair elastic.

Instead, Irinel placed a simple, black ribbon about a third of the way down the length. The partial bubble-ponytail look, the sleekness, the unconventional placement of the ribbon — it all lends itself to breaking away from the coquette craze in a super chic way. So we'll be channelling Eva Longoria next time we reach for a hair bow.
