Kim Kardashian's new reality TV series, Calabasas, doesn't sound like her usual bag

Based on a book about the town, If You Lived Here You’d Be Famous By Now. Emma Roberts will co-produce.

Kim Kardashian has continued her foray into the world of film and TV, having closed a deal with Netflix to make a series called Calabasas, named after the SoCal town her family have made famous with their various reality TV shows and luscious mansions.

The TV show will take place in the Kardashian-loved town, and will be based on If You Lived Here You’d Be Famous By Now by Via Bleidner, which follows the story of 16-year-old Catholic girl Via, who moves with her family from the Midwest to Calabasas, California and sees her life change before her very eyes.

Excitingly, Kim will be co-producing the show with Emma Roberts, after working with her on American Horror Story, as well as Pretty Little Liars creator I. Marlene King, who will adapt the book for screen and act as showrunner.

Author Via Bleidner has described her book as “a collection of stories about growing up in the San Fernando Valley”.

“To be more specific, it’s about what I saw at Calabasas High School, a public school located right in the crosshairs of LA, celebrity weirdness and typical, run-of-the-mill suburban boredom,” she says. "And the string that ties everything together is the internet and how it’s ‘raised’ Gen-Z.”

The book explores the community of influencers, millionaires and child stars in Calabasas, as well as the impact of the Kardashian clan has made on the area and wider culture. We don't know yet how much the Kardashian family will feature in the show, but here's what we do know so far.

Calabasas plot

Deadline has described the series as “in the vein of The O.C. and Beverly Hills 90210”. Its synopsis reads: “Calabasas follows Via, a 16-year-old sheltered Midwestern Catholic school girl whose world is turned upside down when her family moves and she’s forced to transfer to the fast world of Calabasas High where nothing is as it appears and where everyone is trying to be someone else. It’s a place where dreams come true … but not without complications and sometimes unforeseen consequences.”

Calabasas cast

Casting for the TV show is yet to be announced – watch this space. But we predict a load of new young talent playing the Calabasas high schoolers. We love a teen drama.
