Baby Reindeer’s deleted scene reveals key details on Donny and Teri’s relationship

Nava Mau just gave us the closure we were craving.

Baby Reindeer is the Netflix hit series that took us all by surprise, picking up a cool 2.6 million views in its first week and becoming the most-watched show on the platform in more than 30 countries. Even now, since its initial launch on 11 April, Baby Reindeer is still holding firm as the most popular show on Netflix UK, as well as having picked up fans such as Cardi B and Stephen King.

And it's little wonder why. Horrifying and yet entirely enticing, the series is a fictionalised retelling of Richard Gadd's own experiences with a female stalker. With Gadd being the show's creator, the series is not only inspired by his real life but he also stars in the series as Donny, bringing his story to life alongside Jessica Gunning as Martha and Nava Mau who plays Gadd's girlfriend Teri.

While Donny is being stalked throughout the series, he meets Teri on a dating app and the pair strike up a relationship. However, despite his best efforts to keep Martha away from her, she eventually finds out about Teri and takes to harassing her too. Unsurprisingly, this creates a lot of friction between the couple – and when Donny later sees Teri in the street with another man it's clear that things are done between the two.

We were invested in Donny and Teri's relationship, so this was pretty devastating news to us. But according to Nava Mau who plays Teri in the series, there was a deleted scene which didn't make the cut – and it reveals some key details about where the pair left things off with their relationship.

In an interview with GQ, Nava Mau explained: “There actually was one more piece of Teri and Donny’s relationship in the script, and I performed it. Teri leaves Donny a voicemail five months later.”

She added, "So I think, for me, I got closure because Teri did too."

Though the actress didn't delve into what the voicemails said, from what she's said it seems like they left things on good terms.

“That's what gave me so much comfort, knowing that they found peace with regards to their relationship," she said. "Teri got her happy ending, you know? Teri found a new man, she didn't lose her friends, she didn't lose her job, she didn't lose her smile. She's good. And I think that is remarkable, because so often we've seen stories of trans people that end with them broken.”
